Patient-Death Medicolegal Advice for Doctors

 

Patient deaths in healthcare institutions are a daily fact of life, and healthcare providers (nurses and doctors) have the legal obligation of notifying the Department of Home Affairs of the death. Often, there is uncertainty about how to complete the Death Notification form (the BI-1663 form), whether the death is NATURAL or UNNATURAL, and whether the body requires a medicolegal autopsy or not. Forensic Pathology Consultants (Pty) Ltd provides a 24-hour on-call telephonic consultation service by an experienced senior specialist forensic pathologist about patient-death medicolegal advice. The consultation fee is R 250.00 for the first 120 seconds or part thereof, which suffices in most cases. Thereafter, the fee is R 100.00 per minute. Consultancy for Autopsy-perfoming Doctors

 

Autopsy-performing doctors sometimes need a second opinion from another forensic pathologist while performing an autopsy. Forensic Pathology Consultants (Pty) Ltd provides an 08H00 to 16H00 telephonic consultation service by an experienced senior specialist forensic pathologist. The consultation fee is R 200.00 for the first 120 seconds, which suffices for most cases. Thereafter, the fee is R 75.00 per minute. Private & Post-exhumation Autopsies

 

At Forensic Pathology Consultants (Pty) Ltd we perform private autopsies, second-opinion autopsies, and post-exhumation autopsies at the request of the family of the deceased person, or of a Law firm representing them. We carry our own equipment and will perform toxicology and histopathology analyses via private laboratories as required. We provide a comprehensive autopsy report.
